Singing group from Ohio?

Your blogger is a little unsure about this image, except that it is of our church basement, back in the '70s, maybe earlier, and that the girls wearing similar dresses in the foreground of the photo were a singing group that was visiting here. Anyone remember anything about this group, who  they were, when this event took place? Please comment here! That was kind of nice having a Coke machine in the basement wasn't it? ;-)

  1. This is the Girl's Octet from St. John the Baptist Church in Warren, OH. They were touring to fundraise for a trip to Alaska to sing in churches there. I don't remember all of them, but stayed close with Janet Augusta, the Director, who died in a car accident in the mid-80s, her sister Marilyn, who is the widow of Fr. Peter Kreta and lives in Kodiak, Chariessa Malacky, who married and died last year in Washington State, and her sister Deborah, who is the wife of Fr. Steven Belonick in Bridgeport, CT. She works at SVS. They visited Rochester in early 1974. Our parish teen group raised some funds to help them. Musica Russica just issued a remastered edition of the album they recorded at that time.

  2. The Lutheran church in which I was raised had two pop vending machines, one Coca-Cola and one Pepsi, and it wasn't that large of a church. Maybe that was just one of the "givens" of that era.
